Leg 043 -- Dec 22, 2022

Bradford to Warner

    Distance: 9.09   Time: 1:36:49

Leg 43 - Dec 22, 2022 - Bradford to Warner / 9.09 Miles ... To Date: 334 miles/56 hrs

Took the opportunity to run this leg before the coldest air of the season arrived and while the course was fresh in my mind and body was ready to go.
Was pleased that I was ready to run within a couple of days of the last run - usually it takes me a bit longer to recover, but I expect I was motivated by the onset of frigid weather on the horizon and wanting to avoid it.

I was able to find a connecting route that avoided any lengthy running on route 103. When I do find these options it usually means there are often hills and dirt roads that accompany ... as was the case, but not too bad.

I started off at the Town Hall on West Main - again, thankful that a nice clean port-o-john was waiting for me to avail myself of before heading off and across 103, continuing on East Main through the heart of Warner. There's a handy Dunkin's at the corner if anyone needs a cup of coffee or snack.

The route crosses 114 and continues on to intersect with 103 just over a mile in. There's a very pleasant open descent where you go past ball fields with their Snack Shacks. At 103 go left (East) for about a half mile where Melvin Mills connects in. Say goodbye to cars here and follow Melvin Mills along Warner River (more a stream) which you cross over and connect with Newmarket (what is a road named Newmarket doing out here?) where there's a bit of a rise leading into.

I have to admit I missed a turn and added a bit extra to my run today. Not sure why the brain fog, must have been the music I was listening to - yeah, that's it :). Anyway once oriented and on Newmarket I continued on until just past mile 6 where Bean intersects and a cat 5 climb begins. Fortunately only a mile or so and once crested the rest of the way was a nice descent with one last rise at the end on Mill St that leads up to town center.

After the run - a quick change at the library (friendly & accommodating) and then nice lunch at local restaurant - The Kitchen.

Happy Holidays!

Next up - Warner to Henniker Bit of a challenge as there is a section not maintained after Dec 10. Adventurous fun ... I hope!

You'll find this leg's RUNNH234  breadcrumb golf ball as you make the turn on to Bean Rd under the watchful eye of James A. Wadleigh
