Leg 041 -- Dec 11, 2022

Newbury to Sutton

    Distance: 5.97   Time: 57:28

Winter is setting in, expect to be running with hats, gloves and layers for the next few months. Laundry does pile up in the winter for sure the more I run.

We've been traveling through Antrim on 202 the past few weeks as we drive to the starting points. We were looking for a change of pace from Dunkins to grab coffee and found a great spot - the Moka Pot - which you'll find just as you enter Antrim on the left side in brick building. Had been recommended to give a try and we give thumbs up for those of you passing through. Nancy enjoyed a Ginger Spice Latte. Nice selection of breakfast items.

The average leg to this point has been just under 8 miles so this was on the shorter side. Just after setting off I hid the RUNNH234 golfball breadcrumb and then was on my way heading east on 103 for less than 1/2 mile before veering off to the left onto Old Post Rd and the start of a 2 mile climb. shortly after getting on Old Post Rd the course takes a left on Old Province Rd (lot of Old roads I guess in this neck of the woods). Pavement turns to dirt as the ascent continues. The hill climb ends when you get to Bly Hill Cemetery sign.

Continue on relatively flat until left on Cheney Rd just shy of 3 miles. Cheney has a nice descent down to Jones Corner, right on Chalk Pond Rd (newly paved). From there all downhill to the finish. Great way to end.

Not much to speak of for Sutton Town Hall area - brick building in a neighborhood - no church. There is a library up the street. There are other buildings out on 114, but this section is set apart. Another case where you'd never know it was here if you weren't looking for it. On the way home we scouted a couple of more legs and found one town we'd never visited before that we enjoyed spending time in ... and look forward to coming back. Hint - it's home to the NH Telephone museum. Next up: Sutton to Bradford.

It was cold and I opted to not carry my phone for photos on the run - so a bit of a cop out - I hit the breadcrumb in a spot near the start and you should be able to figure it out from the picture.  You'll need to crouch down to find it - rock steady
