The Road Ahead

There is no set timetable. I plan to run when I am able and schedules permit … and rest when I must. It’s not a race, but it is a challenge and I am motivated to make meaningful progress one leg at a time. I am starting simple with the idea that this challenge is personal and for me. I’m looking to challenge myself and enjoy the journey. If it morphs into something else (like running for charity or motivating others) that would be awesome, but for now there’s no motive other than to challenge myself.
I’ll end this section with a reference from one of my favorite movies, “Field of Dreams”. Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) and Terence Mann (James Earl Jones) are at Fenway Park watching the Red Sox when Ray hears a voice say “Go the Distance” and sees the name “Moonlight Graham” display on the scoreboard showing he had gotten to the major leagues but never had an official at bat. Later when Ray drops Terence off, Terence says to Ray “I wish I had your Passion”. I hear the voice calling to go the distance and I have the drive and determination to do it. I’ve never quit on anything I’ve started and committed to, and have no intention to bail on this challenge. Like any journey, I expect there to be highs and lows along the way. I admit to having my doubts that my body and legs will hold up and cooperate. I’m going to do all I can to make it happen and am grateful for the support and encouragement Nancy is giving me.
I look forward to the many roads that lay ahead and I hope you will check in from time to time to see how it’s going.
