LEG 019 - Apr 15, 2022
Leg 024 -- Jun 12, 2022
Washington to Lempster
Distance: 5.66 Time: 56:40
Great day for a run - low humidity, blue skies with passing clouds, temp around 70. Nancy and I agree that Washington takes the cake right now as the most quintessential New England town center to this point. It is taking us longer to get to the legs so planning and timing are becoming more essential the further away from Dublin we get. No surprise there - but with 4 dogs at home planning is key.

The run itself was a bit tougher than I thought. I knew the first hill was taxing, but it turned out the second climb was where I felt it a bit more. All in all, felt good and am very thankful my body is cooperating - especially my knees.

I was a bit tired leading into the run, having been in afib on Friday night. These episodes are usually just overnight, but it takes me a couple of days to get my energy level back and not feel as tired. No complaints with getting through the leg.

I'd say the most scenic part of the run was going past a homestead and seeing windmills on the hills behind. If you look at the running picture with cemetery you'll see them in the background.

The last stretch of the run was nice descent, but there's no town center to speak of - at least not much of one. there's a town hall, library, cemetery at the intersection of two main roads. No shops or homes around.

After the run we scouted the next one - another case where you can't drive the route as there's a rocky road unpassable by cars in the middle. What gives with this? There were cart roads set up during settlement period, but they never became modern connector roads? We drove the first part up to the unpassable section and then headed to Acworth and drove it in reverse to the same point. I'm getting good at stopping people to inquire. A woman walking her dog gave us the lowdown. Sound like it's a steep climb.

Acworth is one of the highest elevation towns and I'm expecting this one to be memorable. Leave it at that.

As my good friend Bob says - ever onward! Below is a picture of my latest DIY home project taking left over stone from our patio and fashioning it into a path in the backyard out to the firepit. So I'm all about paths and journeys these days.
