LEG 015 - Jan 30, 2022
Harrisville to Nelson
Distance: 4.67 Time: 48:24
It's been 2 weeks since I last ran a RUNNH234 leg, and I've only run once since then. Lesson learned - don't run back to back legs the same day (unless distance and difficulty more reasonable).

I had a series of leg issues following Keene -- Roxbury -- Harrisville and am still not fully recovered. Probably shouldn't run today, but don't want to lose momentum of completing runs in reasonable periods of time. Today's run is only 5 miles and hopefully will not prove taxing on the injury front.

Body is definitely taking longer to recover. The Hinsdale to Chesterfield run gave me false confidence that knee issues were behind me. Westmoreland to Keene run went well, but I think that set me up for most recent injury.

It's cold and windy out today following yesterday's Nor'easter snow storm. I'd say we only got about 6 inches, but plenty of the white stuff out there ... including on the road. It took me a couple of hours shovel out after the plowing.

One difference with current knee injury is stiffness, soreness and some pain behind the knee. With meniscus the pain was more in lower front of knee. Am going to run with a compression sleeve on right knee to see how that goes.

Post Run recap: Roads were snow covered and icy - no way to get traction so it was more an elliptical shuffle. My effort level was like running 9 minute miles, but results were 2 minutes slower.
The compression knee brace didn't really help the stiffness. It's fine to wear when not exercising, but I didn't feel a benefit during the run. Actually made my knee feel stiffer and felt it altered my stride (in tandem with road conditions) causing more harm than good. I also recently played platform tennis running around in tennis shoes which are very different. So I expect my legs are just saying -- timeout!
Nelson has a very quiet center, very easy to drive through and not know you ever visited a town - though it does have the traditional white historical buildings. Was glad this run was close by.
